Texas Car Crash Kills 9 Suspected Illegal Immigrants

In McAllen, Texas a van filled with suspected illegal immigrants crashed and rolled after attempting to flee a traffic stop in one of the border cities of southern Texas earlier this week. In its wake, nine Mexican citizens were left dead and another six were injured, according to reports issued by state officials on Wednesday. Already, an investigation has been put under way and eight of the crash's survivors are currently being held in custody as the matter is looked into by immigration authorities.

Details of the accident that have been released thus far reveal that the crowded van was stopped by Border Patrol agents in Palmview, just ten miles west of McAllen, on Tuesday night, April 10, 2012. Upon being stopped, several of the van's passengers fled on foot, only to be chased by agents who were successful in detaining one. The van's driver sped away from the scene as soon as the foot chase began, and about three or four blocks away (on U.S. 83) is where the accident ultimately occurred. Nine were left dead, and those whose lives were spared immediately took off. In total, six people were taken to a nearby hospital, three of whom were later released to authorities. Now, all remain in custody of Border Patrol officials.

Reports have indicated that most of the accident's victims are natives of Mexico; all fatality reports have been tied back to Mexican citizens. Authorities suspect that all of the Mexican citizens involved in the car wreck entered the country illegally. Car accidents of every degree can happen at any time, and it will be important for the victims of said accidents to retain the legal services of a Lubbock personal injury attorney as soon after the accident as possible.
